In our sessions, we enjoyed both. Candy AI makes more sense when we simply want to pick a character and talk. OurDream AI gets our vote for complex chats because the model choice and extra roleplay controls give us more ways to change the experience.

Candy AI says its characters retain information and adjust future conversations based on previous exchanges. We found that useful for companion-style chats where the same character is used again and again. However, Candy does not publicly provide a clear context-window size or a detailed memory control system.

OurDream AI is much more specific. Its four memory layers are:

2. Pinned Memories.
3. Custom Instructions.
4. User Personas.

Pinned Memories let important details stay available, while User Personas allow us to change who we are from one chat to another.

Candy AI gives us plenty of visual choices. Its creator includes options for age, ethnicity, hairstyle, hair and eye color, body features, personality, hobbies, and voice. We can also choose between realistic and anime characters.

OurDream takes character building further. Its six-step creator includes appearance, relationship type, voice, personality, occupation, and backstory. The platform currently lists:

It also supports very large narrative fields for detailed character backgrounds.

• Candy AI lets us select an existing character or create our own and then generate pictures through prompts. Images can also appear as part of the chat experience. We liked how closely this ties visual content to the companion instead of making it feel like a separate AI art tool.
• OurDream supports generation and image editing. It also advertises batch generation of up to 256 images. Standard generation for Premium users currently costs 10 dreamcoins for two images, while an in-chat image costs 5 coins. Editing and enhancement have separate costs.

This was one of the more interesting parts of our test because both platforms now go well beyond text.

• Candy AI offers voice content plus live AI calls. The live call tool is currently marked as beta and costs 3 tokens per minute. Video is also built directly into chats, with current character pages showing five-second Scene Video generation for 12 tokens. These advanced tools sit behind Premium access.
• OurDream offers real-time calls as well, but the current rate is much higher at 50 dreamcoins per minute. Video is where it becomes much stronger. OurDream lists eight video modes and clips of up to 60 seconds, plus video enhancement and extension tools. Standard generation starts at 100 dreamcoins per five seconds.

For calls, Candy AI feels more practical. For users who care more about creating and controlling videos, we would choose OurDream.

We had good roleplay sessions on both platforms. They support romantic and adult fictional scenarios, but neither service literally allows everything.

• Candy AI is an adults-only service and allows mature AI companion content. Its rules still prohibit categories such as content involving minors, non-consensual intimate material, real-person deepfakes, illegal content, extreme harmful material, and several other restricted areas.
• OurDream also limits access to adults. Its policy explicitly permits romantic and sexual content between consenting adult fictional characters, while banning minors and other prohibited material.

OurDream gets a slight edge from us for long-form roleplay. The stronger memory system, Custom Instructions, personas, and detailed backstories make it easier to maintain a larger fictional world. Candy is very good when we want lighter roleplay without spending much time on setup.

Candy AI is the cheaper option, especially if we look at the annual plan. OurDream costs more, but it also gives us a larger monthly credit allowance and more advanced tools.

For us, Candy AI wins on pure price. Its annual plan is much cheaper, and unlimited Premium messaging makes the cost easy to understand.

OurDream asks for a higher subscription fee, but the 1,000 monthly dreamcoins give us more room to use image, video, voice, and other paid features. We think that model makes more sense for users who plan to use the platform’s creative tools often, not just chat.

• Candy AI is the easier platform to understand at first glance. We can browse characters, open a chat, create a companion, generate an image, or view our collection without digging through too many controls. It also works across desktop and mobile devices.
• OurDream has more going on. Chat, character creation, generation tools, community features, different models, memories, and dreamcoins all give us more control, but they also add a little more to learn. OurDream currently has no standalone mobile app, although the website can be added to a phone’s home screen.

For beginners, we prefer Candy AI. For someone who enjoys having more settings and tools available, OurDream’s extra complexity pays off.

This section is worth reading before sharing anything personal with either chatbot.

• Candy’s privacy notice says user exchanges, prompts, and outputs may be aggregated, anonymized, or de-identified for research and development, including training AI models and moderation technology. It also says third-party LLM providers or hosting partners may receive message content where needed to provide the service. Users can request deletion of personal data.
• OurDream says data is protected at rest and in transit with AES encryption and TLS 1.3. Its privacy policy also states that collected information may be used to improve and train AI or machine-learning models. Accounts can be deleted from Account Management, with additional privacy rights depending on location.

We would therefore use the same rule with both services: don’t put passwords, financial details, addresses, or highly private real-world information into AI chats. Neither privacy policy gives us a reason to treat an AI conversation like an offline diary.

Choose OurDream AI if you care more about detailed roleplay, deep character controls, persistent memory, different chat models, and stronger video tools. We give it 9.4/10 because it offers more room to build complicated characters and stories.

The final choice may actually come down to one simple question: do you want the easier and cheaper experience, or do you want more tools to control almost every part of your AI character? For us, Candy AI handles the first job very well, while OurDream AI is the stronger all-in-one platform for users who want to go deeper.
